HEALTH POLICY

All children are required to receive a physical exam prior to admission in program. All children must have all necessary immunizations and physician’s note indicating a schedule of immunizations, prior to admission.

Every child attending Laurels & Garland will be required to have an updated Child Health Record filled out and completed by the child’s Health Care provider on an annual basis. We recommend the beginning of every academic year upon return to the school each year.

Sick Children

We are required by the Health Department to have children stay at home if they are sick. If you are not sure your child is well enough to attend child care, call and talk with me. If your child gets sick while in school, you or someone you know will need to pick up your child. We are responsible for the health of many children so we must follow Health Department regulations when it comes to sickness.

According to the Department of Health requirements, and in the best interests of your child, he/she must be kept at home if he/she shows any of the following symptoms:

  • Rashes or inflamed skin areas
  • Fever or headache
  • Abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Earache
  • Sore throat
  • Inflammation of the eyes
  • Enlarged glands
  • Persistent Cough

If a note from a physician is submitted to the center stating that any of these ailments aren’t transmittable to other children and or adults, then a child may return to the center

If a child develops any of these symptoms in school, the Parent or guardian will be notified and requested to pick up the child as soon as possible.

If your child is on antibiotics he/she continues to be contagious for 24 hours after the first dose of medication and cannot return to childcare until this time period has passed. We are not able to give a child medication unless we have a signed permission from the parent. An illness report will be sent to you when we have cause to believe the child may need a medical attention.

Medical Emergencies

We make every effort to keep your children safe through supervision and childproofing. Minor injuries will receive first aid, and if an emergency injury or illness occurs, you will be contacted immediately. If we are unable contact you, we will call someone you have given me permission to call.

Our Curriculum
Integrated

Young children learn best when they can make connections across many disciplines. All our subjects are integrated throughout our curriculum.

Focus on Literacy

Children with large vocabularies who exhibit phonological and phonemic awareness skills are more likely to become literate. We develop these skills and apply them to phonics, concepts of print, comprehension and writing, laying the foundation for long-term achievement.

Focused on Math

We integrate and emphasize math skills and concepts. Direct instruction, center exploration, games and activities provide a practical approach to applied math that children encounter in everyday life.

Systematic, Spiraled & Scaffolded trips

Children retain new information when it connects with previous knowledge and experiences. New information is presented in a logical and linear fashion. Thereafter, children move from simple concepts to advanced understanding through a continuum where skills and concepts are reviewed, revisited and expanded.

Standards-Based place

Our curriculum establishes clear and developmentally appropriate goals for children’s learning based on our local and international programs.
